Cost

Service providers will charge a government fee and a service fee for some updates to your business name registration. Other updates will only have a service fee. See the Registry agent product catalogue.

How to apply

Step 1. Fill out the forms

Fill out the forms for the type of update or change you need to make.

PDF form issues

Fillable PDF forms do not open properly on some mobile devices and web browsers. To fill in and save the form:

  1. Save the PDF form to your computer – click or right-click the link and download the form.
  2. Open the PDF form with Adobe Reader. Fill it in and save it.

Trade name / sole proprietorship

A trade name owner / sole proprietor's address can be updated by filling out the Declaration of Address Change.

Special Authority to Execute a Registration

When your LP home province is BC, Manitoba, or Saskatchewan, you need to report general partner changes to Alberta Corporate Registry. Use Alberta's Online Extra-Provincial Registration to report the changes. There is no cost.

Note that LP changes of name are automatically sent to Alberta from your home province. No further action is required.

Limited liability partnership (LLP) updates and changes

Use the forms below for a:

  • change of representative partners
  • partner address change
  • professional approval for partnership
  • extra-provincial limited liability partnerships must also provide proof that a partnership name change has been registered in their home jurisdiction
  • LLPs must also file annual reports to prevent the registration from being cancelled

When your LLP home province is BC, Manitoba or Saskatchewan, there are special processes for changing your registration in Alberta. Contact your home jurisdiction registry office for more information. There is no fee to report changes.

Extra-Provincial Registration in BC, Manitoba or Saskatchewan

Limited liability partnership

When your Alberta LLP is extra-provincially registered in BC, Manitoba, or Saskatchewan, you also need to complete an update.

When your update includes a change of your Alberta LLP’s name, you will usually have to apply and pay for a name search and reservation in the other province before submitting your update.

There is no cost to register a BC, Manitoba or Saskatchewan update but you must send those forms to Alberta's Corporate Registry by fax or email. We will send them to the other province for processing:

Limited partnership

When your Alberta LP is extra-provincially registered in BC, Manitoba, or Saskatchewan, you need to notify those provinces about name changes and other information about your business. There is no cost to update your registration.

When your update includes a change of your Alberta LP's name you will usually have to apply and pay for a name search and reservation in the other province before submitting your update.

If your LP home jurisdiction is BC, Manitoba or Saskatchewan, register your changes through Alberta's Online Extra-Provincial Registration. There is no cost.

Step 2. Submit your changes

Bring the following to an authorized Corporate Registry service provider:

  • your completed form
  • valid ID
  • fee payment/service fee
