Consumer Alert - Manitoba-Based Travel Company Faces Charges
Edmonton, October 29, 2001 -- Alberta Government Services has charged Mr. Canada’s Transportation Network Inc. and Wayne Russell Flett, principal director, with 32 counts of violating the Fair Trading Act.
Consumers allege the Manitoba-based travel company misled them into believing they would receive rebates of up to $700 within 60 to 90 days of completing a trip. None of the 24 consumers involved have received a rebate. They claim to be owed a total of $13,400. It is a breach of the Fair Trading Act, Alberta’s consumer protection legislation, to lead consumers to believe a price benefit or advantage exists when it does not.
First court appearances are scheduled for Oct. 30 in Calgary, Oct. 31 in Edmonton, Nov. 1 in Leduc, Nov. 6 in Red Deer, Nov. 7 in Fort Saskatchewan, Nov. 13 in Lethbridge and Nov. 14 in Stony Plain.
Mr. Canada’s Transportation Network Inc. offered bus tour packages to various U.S. destinations. The charges all involve rebates offered on trips to Biloxi, Mississippi. Government Services believes this company is no longer in operation.
Albertans who have questions related to Mr. Canada’s Transportation Network Inc. or Flashback Entertainment & Tours Inc., also believed to be connected with Flett, should contact Alberta Government Services toll free by calling 1-877-427-4088.
